<![CDATA[Lastly Add Love Paper Arts - Blog]]>Mon, 29 Jan 2018 04:22:12 -0600Weebly<![CDATA[Sometimes You Just Need Some Help]]>Sun, 28 Jan 2018 15:04:37 GMThttp://lastlyaddlove.com/blog/sometimes-you-just-need-some-helpI hate grocery shopping. With a passion. This is something that started recently, but it’s bad enough that I’ll find just about any excuse to avoid going to a grocery store. But, a couple of weeks ago, Austin was under a weather advisory for ice, snow, sleet & multiple days of below freezing temperatures. Which, besides the obvious travel hazards, meant that I might have a frozen pump on my well and not have water until it warmed up. So, I mustered all the fortitude I could, and went grocery shopping. Because maybe having some food in the house would be a good thing too.

As I was in the frozen foods section to get peaches for smoothies, I came across something that stopped me in my tracks. Frozen premade peanut butter sandwiches. Seriously?? Someone can’t buy bread, peanut butter and their favorite spread and make their own? Is this how lazy we are now?

I finished my shopping and went home thinking about why there is a market for frozen peanut butter sandwiches.

While I was homebound for the ice day, I worked on the Lots of Happy Kit from the Occasions Catalog. It’s a beautiful kit, and the bonus is you get a Lemon Lime Twist and Flirty Flamingo Watercolor Pencil – which you can’t just buy separately. And, while I was coloring in the floral designs, I had an “ah-ha” moment. I’ve been a paper crafter since 2003. I have more stamps, ink, paper, tools, embellishments, etc. than most people would find healthy. I have an entire room in my house devoted to this art form. And, rather than making something from scratch, I was using premade items to make my cards. It was kind of like eating a premade PB&J sandwich.

And don’t we all sometimes need a little extra help? Sometimes, I want to make something, but I can’t find the spark of creativity to start. Or, maybe I don't have the time to start from square 1. And, at least for me, kits can help get you started. It gives you samples, directions and ideas. When I'm working on a kit - whether it is one from the catalog, or that month's Paper Pumpkin, I usually find ways to tweak the design, or add something that makes it my own. And, once I start working, I typically find the creativity that I could not find earlier. Kits are not just for beginning crafters, they are for everyone!

So, now I see the need for frozen peanut butter sandwiches, because someone just needs a little help until they get more creative with their food. And, I can appreciate that!

Best part of the frozen PB&J is you get to pick what is with your PB!

<![CDATA[Leave People Better Than You Find Them]]>Sun, 21 Jan 2018 22:43:42 GMThttp://lastlyaddlove.com/blog/leave-people-better-than-you-find-themPicture
I was going to start off the new year with a great post about New Year’s Resolutions. But, I didn’t want to do the same old boring stuff:
     I’m going to lose weight (which I have this month!!);
     I’m going to eat healthy (which I’ve been doing, which is part of the weight loss);
     I’m going to workout more (which I’ve also been doing – see weight loss);
     etc.
So, I’ve been pondering what to resolve to do in 2018, and what to post about. I thought January was going to be over before I thought of something.
But, then…the counters around the sinks in the women’s room at my day job always have standing water on them. I’m not sure how so much water gets splashed around as you wash your hands. After many times of being the one to lean forward and get my shirt wet, I now wipe the countertop off before I wash my hands, as well as after I finish at the sink.
Last week a colleague appreciated that I was wiping the countertop, and I told her I just felt I had to because as a former Girl Scout, I was taught to leave a place better than I found it.
That short conversation got me thinking. Why is it only places that we should leave better? Isn’t the point to love people? Shouldn’t we be enriching the people we meet daily instead of tearing them down?
That’s when I knew what my 2018 resolution is – to leave people better than I find them.
So, I’m resolving to be more kind to the people around me. To be more alert when they need something. To focus on the people in my life instead of my life.
When I was cleaning my craft room this weekend, I came across some card fronts I had stenciled. So, I pulled out the Daisy Delight stamp set, and my Archival Basic Black Ink to turn them into “thank you” cards. I need some now to thank some friends and teammates for some happy mail I recently received, but I’ll also have plenty on hand to send out as the moments arise.
It’s not a big thing, but for me, it’s the small changes that I make that usually have the biggest impact.
And, next time I stamp, I’ll be making extras of whatever I make (birthday, sympathy, thinking of you) so I’ll have plenty of those cards waiting for when they are needed to celebrate, support, bless, & love the people in my life.

<![CDATA[Funky Chicken]]>Sun, 30 Apr 2017 19:22:33 GMThttp://lastlyaddlove.com/blog/funky-chickenPicture
I just love the "Hey Chick" Sale-A-Bration stamp set, and knew it would be perfect for this week's Global Design Project #072 Case the Designer challenge

This chick's wild hair inspired me to give her a non-traditional color scheme...and who wouldn't love to get such a funky chicken in their mailbox?

I stamped the chicken on Whisper White card stock cut into a square with the Stitched Shapes Framelits with Archival Basic Gray ink. I then colored the chicken using an Aqua Painter and Rich Razzleberry, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight inks. Some Clear Wink of Stella gave the chicken just the right amount of sparkle to go with her ombre' coloring.

I used Archival Basic Black to stamp the small sentiment in the lower right corner of the card stock square. You'll want to plan for this, so don't just stamp the chicken in the middle of the square.

Before adhering the Whisper White square to the Rich Razzleberry card front, I used a sponge dauber and Whisper White Craft White Ink to make the large polka dots.

I adhered the Rich Razzleberry card front to a card base cut from Basic Gray card stock.

Now it's ready to make someone's day!

P.S. This was 1 of the card designs I used at my Basic Stamp Class today, and everyone loved it! Sign up for my email list, or place an order of $25 or more with me using host code A7XWAETF this month, and I'll send you a FREE pdf with the full instructions and dimensions for this card and the other 2 designs from today's Basic Card Class. If you spend $50 or more, you can get the "Hey Chick" stamp set for your FREE Sale-A-Bration item.
